Blogs are here to stay. So for us bloggers, we might as well figure out how to monetize them. So here are ways you can monetize your blog which includes Google Adsense, Affiliate Marketing, Content Ads.

Google Adsense places Google Ads on your site. You can sign up at Google Adsense. Adsense are PPC ads. They are the best paying ads. They are known to pay better than Yahoo, and MSN.

The next way you can monetize your Blog is using affiliate programs such as Clickbank. The best programs on Clickbank offer payouts of at least 50%. The programs on Clickbank usually offer 51% to 60%.

Another way to monetize your blog is using content Ads, such as Kontera. These are the double links you see within the text.

Look in the coming days for more ways to monetize your blog.

I’ll talk to you later

Blogs are here to stay. They are becoming more and more mainstream. You see them on more corporate websites, and traditional media websites as well. What does this mean? This means that there are hundreds of thousands of blogs created each day. How do you sort through all these blogs, and find one that are worth something.

Well, it’s blog search to the rescue. All the major search engines, such as MSN, Google, and Yahoo have blog searches. For Google, it’s Google Blog Search. For Yahoo, it’s Yahoo! Search Blog. For MSN there is Windows Live Spaces. There are also sites specifically dedicated to searching blogs, i.e Technorati, IceRocket etc.

I forgot to mention there is Blogger which offers BlogSpot blogs. You can do searches there as well.

Of course there are specialized blog searches such MP3 Blog Search, and Adult Blog Searches.

Anyway whatever blog you fantasy there is a resource to search that blog for you

What is an amateur blog? It’s not what you think. If you do a search on “amateur blog“, it’s all about porn. Essentially it’s an adult blog. I’ve never been to these adult blog sites, but I can imagine what is on them. Aside from what is on them. I can tell you that you can make very good money operating adult blogs, and adult type sites.

The unfortunate thing is amateur porn blogs or more commonly known as porn sites in the US is still consider taboo. People don’t really talk about it in public. It’s stuff that goes on behind close doors. In other words, amateur nude blog, and adult sites are not part of mainstream America.

I am not going to link to any these blogs, because I don’t encourage or condone porn on this site. However, I feel it is important to address it, rather than ignore, and pretend amateur porn blogs didn’t exist. I am approaching this from an educational point of view.

I’ll talk to you later

So what is the best blog software out there? Well there are some that you get an account on their server? Others you install on your own server or virtual hosting.

There are two versions of Wordpress.org blog software out there. There is Wordpress, and Wordpress Mu. You can read my previous post on Wordpress: De facto Blog Software.

Today I am going to to talk about the other major blog software. There is of course, Blogger.com, which is owned by Google, from Pyra Labs. The other major one is Typepad. Which you pay for. And of course, we can’t leave out Wordpress.com.

With Blogger, you have services integrated with Google. You can integrate it with an Adsense account. The bad part about it is you have that Blogger bar on top. I know many people who don’t like that. The good news is you can display Google Ads pretty easily. You can modify templates - that’s if you know something about programming. However, Blogger doesn’t have the plugin features that Wordpress.org provides. There is however great feature of Blogger that Wordpress.com does not permit, you can write your blog to promote and push products.

With Typepad, there are many integrated features. In fact they make it very user friendly. You have many widgets at your disposal. The cool part about it is you can have a video blog, a photo blog, or even a podcast. The features are all built in. However, you can achieve the same with plugins using Wordpress.org. So how much is it going to cost? The service is actually really valuable if you don’t want to spend the time with the technical mumbo jumbo, and you just want to write.

There are four levels of Typepad accounts.

Basic - $4.95 per month, or $49.50 a year, this is for one blog and limited bandwidth

Plus - $8.95 per month, or $89.50 a year, up to three blogs with slightly more bandwidth

Pro - $14.95 per month, or $149.50 a year, unlimited blogs, 1Gb storage & 10Gb Bandwidth

Premium - $29.95 per month or $299.50 a year, a pro account with double the bandwidth, and three times the storage, with membership to Typepad insider groups

Last but not least is Wordpress.com, the blog give away by Automattic - Author of Wordpress.org software. You can use this blog to promote products, and your Wordpress.com blog will get taken down. A great feature of Wordpress.com is you can keep your blog private, just between family members, and friends. To keep up with latest, because subscribing to an RSS feed is not possible on a private blog, you can keep up with the going’s on with Blog Surfer. There is also Tag Surfer, to include tags on the left hand side of the blog, and Blog Stats to see who has been visiting. However, one draw back is you don’t have the plugin features you have with Wordpress.org, or Wordpress Mu.

Of the three we went over, only Typepad charges. So it’s up to you if you want to select a free blog, or a blog service that charges. Or there is a fourth option. Sign up a blog here at BlogBlat.com with me, Nick.

I’ll talk to you later

If you spend anytime surfing the web, you may have visited a few blogs here and there. Now, if you look carefully, sometimes you see the “Powered by Wordpress” logo. So what is Wordpress anyways?

Well, there are two flavors. The first one Wordpress.com is just like Blogger.com. You sign up for an account at Blogger, or Wordpress.com, and you post your articles logging into their server. What makes Wordpress.org unique is that you download the software, and install it on your own server, virtual hosting, or dedicated server hosting.

With freedom to install your own Wordpress blog, you have the ability to install any Wordpress plugin you want, any Wordpress theme you want. In essence, you have a great deal of freedom.

Why Wordpress? Wordpress is open source. It’s free. It lets the blogger post, and attempts to leave the technical crap out of the creative process. I say attempt because to install wordpress requires some technical knowledge. This is also true for installing plugins, and modifying themes.

Because of it’s flexibility, Wordpress has been so prevalent that there is a community of developers providing plugins, themes, and Wordpress templates. Wordpress is like the Microsoft of Blogging. If you’re interested on Blogblat, I am running Wordpress Mu.

So you don’t have the expert know how, or don’t have a virtual hosting, or dedicated hosting account the best thing to do is get a free blog from a site like this one. Then all you need to do is worry about writing, and leave the technical mumbo jumbo to me, Nick.

Using Wordpress is very intuitive, it has a dash board which takes some getting use to, but once you know how it works, the rest of the functionality is pretty straight forward. If you still need help, here is a very good reference on getting started.

I’ll talk to you later

Hi, Nick here. How do you start a blog with good content? You need to create a blog with a good topic. First, decide on a niche and pick a catchy title. Remember a blog is an extension of your personality, or yourself. Some niches to consider, a poker blog, sports blog, or a law blog etc. Remember, when you write a post, readers prefer content over quantity.

Most blogs fall under the categories of personal, collaborative, or niche based. You should stick with your topic you pick. Become an expert at that topic. The more of an expert you are the more readers you will attract. This means that your content is of quality. The more valuable your content is the more readers will come. Once you have an established readership, consider Google Ads, Yahoo Publisher Ads, or Microsoft ContentAds.

Hi,

This is Nick. I have been helping Aunt Theresa with her chocolate blog, and chocolate eBook. We’ve been pretty busy running the operations. Enough about us, and on to our topic for today.

After you sign up for a blog here at BlogBlat, you need a catchy title for your Blog. Something that will get your reader’s attention. The title needs to be creative, and if possible original. Then after you have a catchy title, you should consider, a tagline.

The tagline should be something that emphasize, and supports your catchy title. The catchy tagline needs to be memorable. It will should help sale your blog more. Hopefully with both a catchy title, and tagline, you can pull visitors to your site.

One last thing to consider, is how often your tagline, and title is searched in search engines. If the terms are popular, your blog will come up more often with higher rank in the results page.

I’ll talk to you later.

-Nick

I am Nick Draken. My Aunt is Theresa Lisenby. I run the ChocolateCurb blog for her. My Aunt is the author, and I run the technical side of the house. I decided to start the BlogBlat: Blog Master project, in the hope of helping fellow bloggers, and aspiring bloggers to create blog for themselves. Running a blog has been a blast. Now, I want to try my hand writing and running a blog at the same time.

Before you sign up for a blog, there are some things you may want to consider.

1) What are you passionate about?

2) What do you like to do?

3) Writing about issues that you are passionate about is much easier than writing about something that you are not.

4) Consider how big is your niche?

5) If the niche is too general, narrow it down.

6) Finally have fun blogging. You’ll enjoy it

7) Sign up for your free blog

I’ll talk to you later.
